Spartanburg’s Proud Mary Theatre Company is celebrating Christmas with a production of The Gayest Christmas Pageant Ever!
See what happens when a gay theatre company struggles to put on a Christmas show in this holiday program. The virtual production will stream Dec. 23 - 27.
This is not a play for children, despite its similar name to the G-rated The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. This off-Broadway hit was written by Joe Marshall, who has written several highly successful gay-themed plays.
“One of history’s most noted gay writers Oscar Wilde is famous for saying ‘art imitates life,’” Director/Producer/Actor Sandy Staggs said. “And, this play is ironically a good reflection of Proud Mary Theatre. All we do are LGBTQ+ plays, and we have certainly faced challenges over the past three-plus years. And this pandemic has certainly not helped. Yet, we carry on and have still managed to produce some really great, well received shows.”
