The Red Bank Commissioners passed a resolution Tuesday night that adopted a policy to have an invocation at the opening of commission meetings. City Manager Tim Thornbury said he did a survey of all the churches in the city limits of Red Bank, plus those within one mile outside the town in all directions, and found 49 houses of worship. All the churches will be sent a letter to invite them to give an invocation at the commission meetings.

New Online Permitting Process Should Streamline Beer Board Meetings Thursday, January 7, 2021 - by Gail Perry
Chattanooga has just implemented a new online system for business owners to apply for a permit to sell beer. The new application process is welcomed by the nine members of the Chattanooga Beer Board who volunteer their time. Many lengthy meetings take place with few beer license applications being approved due to the business owners not having all the required inspections or documentation that is required by the city. Assistant City Attorney Melinda Foster told multiple applicants at the Thursday morning meeting of the beer board that permits cannot be approved contingent upon receiving information later.
Red Bank Creates Zone For Blood Plasma Collection Centers; Gets 4 Proposals For Old School Property On Dayton Boulevard Wednesday, January 6, 2021 - by Gail Perry
The topic that prompted the most interest at the Red Bank Commission meeting Tuesday night was an ordinance that passed on the final reading that clarified rules regulating blood plasma collection centers. In the past summer, an application to locate one of these businesses on Dayton Boulevard in the Save A Lot building was turned down when the board of commissioners voted for a six-month moratorium to consider an appropriate location for such a business. On Tuesday, the commissioners approved amending the city’s zoning ordinance to define where blood plasma collection businesses will be allowed. The approved zone is west of Highway 27 on Morrison Springs Road in the vicinity of other medical service businesses and on the opposite side of the road from any residences. Like many, I was saddened to hear about the death of former Red Bank High football coach Tom Weathers at the age of 81.
I understand he had unfortunately battled dementia-related issues in later years, but many in the community, on the other hand, have great memories of his coaching and, perhaps more importantly, the positive life skills he taught.
As a childhood member of Red Bank United Methodist Church and because my father, Dr. C. Wayne Shearer, had his optometric office in Red Bank, I was always attuned to the goings on in that community.
