(Mainichi/Yuzuru Ota) ASHIKAGA, Tochigi The mountain forest fire that had been raging in this city north of Tokyo since February have finally been extinguished, the municipal government announced on March 15. Twenty-two days since the wildfire broke out, no smoke sources could be seen from the air, and no fire or abnormal heat sources could be detected on the ground. The fire started near the summit of the 251-meter-tall Mount Ryogai in Ashikaga, Tochigi Prefecture, at around 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 21. The flames then spread to the neighboring Mount Tengu (259 meters), consuming a total of some 106 hectares.
