Construction of a controversial housing estate in Ashford is being held up by poor water quality levels at an internationally important nature reserve.
The highly controversial scheme is facing huge opposition from residents
But a formal planning decision is yet to be issued by Ashford Borough Council as wetlands at the Stodmarsh Nature Reserve outside Canterbury, which are a haven for wildlife, are deemed to be suffering from high levels of nitrogen and phosphorous.
Experts say waste water discharges from existing housing developments filtering into the River Stour and Stodmarshâs lakes are the cause of the problem at the reserve.

An award-winning B&B which is set to become surrounded by homes has gone on the market for £1.5m.
The Downsview Guesthouse in Kennington triumphed on Channel 4 s Three in a Bed programme in 2011 - a reality show which saw the owners go head-to-head with two other hotels.

But now the Willesborough Road site has been put up for sale amid plans for a controversial 725-home housing estate on farmland next to the property.

A bold blueprint aimed at overhauling Ashford town centre has been approved â but councillors are calling for more transparency.
As revealed last month, the town centre reset plan lays out the borough councilâs methodology for how to make the high street and surrounding roads more appealing to shoppers.

It will see an investment corridor created between the high street and Ashford International station, aimed at beautification, improved shop diversity and culture.
The reportâs author â Ashford Borough Councilâs (ABC) town centre regeneration manager Hannah Clayton-Peck â suggests Park Mall could be converted into housing, while highlighting Middle Row as an area with âuntapped potentialâ.
