Asheboro businesses reflect on second streatery after previous issues

Asheboro s second Downtown Streatery of the year was on May 8, after a few business owners expressed their concerns. The second time proved to be a charm for some local business owners, who felt their worries were considered to create a successful event for both parties.  Initially, two business owners stood in front of the Asheboro City Council to discuss decreased revenue on March 20, the first streatery of the year. ASHEBORO - On the inaugural weekend of Asheboro Bagel Co. in downtown Asheboro, the owners decide to host an in-person StorySLAM event to promote artists in the area. StorySLAM is a live storytelling experience popularized by a global organization called The Moth.  The Moth was founded by the novelist George Dawes Green, who wanted to recreate in New York the feeling of sultry summer evenings in his native Georgia, when moths were attracted to the light on the porch where he and his friends would gather to spin spellbinding tales, The Moth website explains.  Amidst the live storytelling is someone called a  live artist.  Nestled in the corner of the bagel shop, she quietly sets up her easel, canvas, and paints. She starts with a blank gray canvas, a clean slate. As the event before her unfolds, she takes in each moment, observing the expressions on people s faces and the sentiment of the crowd. Asheboro businesses lose revenue to Downtown Streatery event

Asheboro s Downtown Streatery took place on March 20, inviting residents to live music and socially distanced activities in response to the pandemic. However, what was meant to rejuvenate the local economy resulted in a negative impact for some, as certain businesses struggled due to the temporary closure blocking customers from their services on Sunset Avenue and Fayetteville Street. The Exchange, a banquet and meeting facility, had a few issues surrounding the event.
