Basildon is blue again after the Labour party was ousted in a dramatic turn at the polls which saw the leader of the town step down. Senior Conservatives admitted national politics may have provided councillors with a huge boost, sending a huge thank you to Prime Minister Boris Johnson for helping to secure votes. Following the count, Craig Rimmer, councillor for Pitsea South East, announced he is set to push to become Tory leader of Basildon.

Basildon Youth Zone plan is best present for youngsters | Braintree and Witham Times

PLANS being submitted for Basildon’s £8.4million youth zone is the “best Christmas present youngsters could ask for”, according to council bosses. Long touted proposals for the youth zone, off Ashdon Way, in the town centre, will now be debated by councillors and it is hoped work could get underway next year. The development will also see a charity launched under the banner of the “Basildon Youth Zone”. It will feature a sports hall, a floodlight 3G pitch, a climbing wall, a fitness suite, and entertainment facilities, if the plans are given the green light. But senior councillors warn the approval could take up to 13 weeks due to the coronavirus pandemic.
