in the smoking ruins of their home. tonight, police have the suspect. here he is again, daron wint he once worked for mr. savopoulos. they have dna evidence placing him at the crime scene and reason to believe he is here in new york. a lot could change in the coming hours. first the latest from pam brown. reporter: a major break in the case came wednesday when atf forensic specialists received dna on a pizza crust. and a nearby dominos franchise said they left food at the door unaware a family was bound, duct taped inside. it showed an element of calm that the person didn t feel rushed. and the assistant dropped off
figueroa for dead. wint was on the run for days. authors told abc news they believe he had been staying with a girlfriend in brooklyn, new york. we do believe there is a connection between this suspect in this case through the business. a domino s pizza could be the breakthrough washington, d.c. police were looking for. sources familiar with the case tell abc news that wint was identified by dna from a leftover domino s pizza crust ordered the night before the savopoulos mansion was set on fire. starting at 7:00 a.m. the morning of the fire, police reports obtained by the washington post show that savopoulos made a flurry of phone calls, including ones to his bank and accountant. a source familiar with the case told abc news that same morning, an assistant of savopoulos s dropped off $40,000 in cash at his house while the victims were apparently being held hostage inside. savopoulos told the housekeeper s husband he would
kidnapping and the murder is just it s going to take time to get this evidence together and we just don t want to jump to conclusions or draw conclusions too soon. wint s former attorney went on television i m sure you know and attorneys are, they advocate for their clients. the attorney was adamant police have the wrong guy. described as kind and gentle. are you sure wint was involved? i m 100% sure he was involved yes. and other charges in addition to homicide? over the next two to three weeks we will probably finalize processing most of what we had and any additional charges will be forthcoming in that time period. what have you learned about wint s relationship with mr. savopoulos? he worked for him, i believe. was there any friction? there s still a lot to be explored there. obviously, you know we re still
see that the prosecutor spent two pages describing what this witness, this witness described as an employee. somebody who drove mr. savopoulos to and from orkwork and his or her involvement in getting the money to the house, that s clearly the center of the investigation. the $40,000 dropped off at the house. was it there? there s a question about all of this? that is very much in question because we can see that this witness that s described in this the driver of mr. savopoulos changing his or her story. so now that s the question. whether or not that money was ever dropped off and whether or not that s the money that was found in the car in which the suspect was arrested in. the suspect did have a connection with the company that mr. savopoulos owned. right? that s right. he worked according to police he worked at american iron works about ten years ago.
