The opposition parties have slammed the Bhagwant Mann government, saying it is using state machinery to settle political scores. They also point out that this is not the first case targeting leaders of other parties.
Many feel that AAP has an advantage as it does not carry with it the baggage of unresolved issues and corruption charges that traditional parties face right now.
Parties say structural reforms will solve the agrarian crisis in the state. Experts say to implement them, long-term goals need to take precedence over short-term political gains.
While the party has already made it clear that it will fight elections under "collective leadership", there has been a growing demand from several aspirants, including Navjot Singh Sidhu, to announce a chief ministerial candidate before the polls.
