According to the Epidemiology Unit, the majority of 146 cases are from the Batticaloa district; 30 cases are from Colombo, and 19 are from the Kandy district. “Dengue Eradication Programmes will be carried out at schools both today and tomorrow, prior to schools being re-opened on Monday (Jan. 11) for the 1st term in the new year, Dr. Aruna Jayasekara, the Director at the National Dengue Eradication Unit told News 1st on Saturday (Jan. 09).

The death toll due to Dengue was also a record low last year. A total of 30,691 cases of Dengue were reported in the country in 2020, while the death toll due to Dengue stood at 35, Dr. Aruna Jayasekara, the Director at the National Dengue Eradication Unit said. In 2019, a total of 159,049 dengue patients were reported; whereas 34,188 dengue patients were reported in 2010, Dr. Jayasekara further noted.
