ANDA, Pangasinan - A 26-year-old fisherman from Barangay Carot in this town has been rescued hours after being stranded at sea during the onslaught of Severe Tropical Storm Maring. In an interview on Wednesday, Pangasinan Police Provincial Office information officer Maj. Arturo Melchor Jr. said the fisherman identified as Christian Suyat went out to fish with his younger brother Nathaniel Suyat on Tuesday morning. "Inquiry revealed that at about 7:40 a.m. on October 12, the two brothers set sail. However, they were met by big waves and heavy rain due to Severe Tropical Storm Maring that their motorized boat overturned," he said. Nathaniel swam back to the shore and sought assistance to rescue his brother, he added. "Christian was located at sea. He held onto the fishing net they brought with them in the boat and waited for rescue," Melchor said. The fisherman was brought to a nearby hospital. (PNA) }
MABINI, Pangasinan - Authorities confiscated PHP54,400 worth of suspected shabu and PHP3,000 worth of marijuana in a buy-bust here on Tuesday afternoon. In an interview on Wednesday, Pangasinan Police Provincial Office information officer Maj. Arturo Melchor Jr. said the items were confiscated from Eddie Boy Barrocan, 41, of Barangay Poblacion. He said Barrocan yielded 10 sachets of shabu with an estimated weight of eight grams and five sachets of suspected marijuana with an estimated weight of 25 grams during the operation. A case is being prepared for filing against the suspect. Meanwhile, five sachets of suspected shabu with an estimated weight of 1.5 grams and a market value of PHP10,200 were seized from a minor in Urbiztondo town on Tuesday.
