On the Town: Angels and Friends gathering a success By: Lillie-Beth Brinkman The Journal Record June 8, 2021 Lillie-Beth Brinkman Rain almost threatened the Angels and Friends party downtown Oklahoma City Saturday night, but it wasn’t enough to deter the indoor/outdoor party from benefiting the Arts Council Oklahoma City. Held this year at the West Village Apartments and on Fred Jones Boulevard in front near Film Row, the cocktail party was a welcome and cheerful event before the council’s upcoming Festival of the Arts. It was also a great way to see West Village and its comfortable and public gathering spaces in these new apartments.

On the Town: Spring brings music, arts, more fun By: Lillie-Beth Brinkman The Journal Record April 20, 2021 Lillie-Beth Brinkman Things are picking up this spring in a somewhat normal way as COVID-19 rates drop, and I know all of us are ready to attend some of the wonderful community events we have been missing over the last year. So, three cheers to Oklahoma’s vaccination efforts, and let’s get our vaccinated selves out to enjoy upcoming gatherings – even with some restrictions, like masks, limited seating capacities, or outdoor-only venues. First, on Friday, celebrate the week Oklahoma City’s annual Festival of the Arts would have begun during a Festival Spring Fling concert at the Jones Assembly. Join the Arts Council Oklahoma City at Jones in person or virtually at 7 p.m. for the celebration featuring Chase McCumber, The Aints, Ckai Dawson and Elevation Band performing on the patio.

Allied Arts, the Oklahoma City Community Foundation and the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition all have recently announced grants to deserving nonprofits working to enhance arts and public health in Oklahoma. • Allied Arts awarded more than $130,000 to 25 local arts and cultural nonprofit groups recently through its grant programs focusing on two areas – educational outreach and capacity-building, a news release noted. This amount brings the total distributed by Allied Arts this fiscal year to more than $2.8 million. Recent recipients for Capacity Building Grants include the Edmond Historical Society & Museum, Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art, Oklahoma Children’s Theatre, Oklahoma Arts Institute, Oklahoma Shakesp
