A drug-resistant strain of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a bacteria linked to contaminated eyedrops, has been found to spread from person to person, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The Global Pharma Healthcare facility in India, where recalled EzriCare Artificial Tears are produced, was cited for sanitation violations by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The eye drops were recalled earlier this year after an outbreak of a bacterial infection sickened dozens of people. Three people died. Eight others experienced vision loss.
The C.D.C. traced deaths and cases of blindness to products imported from India. The agency said it was concerned that the bacteria could gain a foothold in the U.S.
