Maine Legionnaires continue effort to assist homeless veterans

The American Legion Jan 20, 2021 A project by a small group of Maine Legionnaires to provide temporary housing for homeless veterans has grown considerably in the past year. And it could not come at a better time. Boothbay V.E.T.S. (Veterans Emergency Temporary Shelter), started by Charles E. Sherman Jr. Post 36 Legionnaires Ed Harmon, Arthur Richardson and John Hargreaves, picked up momentum in 2020 at a time when Maine’s homeless veterans population began to grow amidst the coronavirus pandemic. What started with one storage trailer retrofitted into livable space has grown to four trailers, with four more on the way.

The Adventure Starts Now

Kitsbow Ambassadors Nancy Peterson and Dave Ertel both former corporate types who traded chasing the brass ring for chasing the next adventure.  Living fairly simply, they don t have a lot of stuff and spend most of the extra money on experiences and bikepacking gear.  Their first extended bike adventure was a trip across the US on a tandem for their honeymoon in 1992. Once you start looking it’s easy to see that there are endless possibilities!  These days (well, pre-Covid anyway) country borders rarely limit the potential options and travel on a bike is often the best way to really see a country. Not every trip has to be epic though - sometimes short tours around familiar areas are just the tick
