A tip about someone with an illegal firearm led police on a foot chase and, with a little help from CHAOS, the K-9, recovery of the gun.
Police went to the 1300 block of S. Grand Ave. E. to locate 26 year old Arthur McClain. Police captured McClain and then a K-9 unit assisted officers in retracing the path of the foot chase where they located a loaded .357 revolver.
McClain has been charged with several crimes including possession of a firearm by a gang member and resisting arrest.
McClain is in custody with bond set at $250,000.

Springfield police, with the help of a K-9 unit, have recovered a loaded handgun and arrested a man suspecting of ditching it during a foot chase.
Police say they received a report of a suspect in illegal possession of a firearm. Officers located the subject in the 1300 block of South Grand Avenue East Saturday evening, but say he fled on foot. After a brief chase, police arrested 26-year-old Arthur McClain. Afterwards, retracing the path of the chase with the K-9 unit, the dog,named Chaos, located the revolver. McClain is being held on multiple charges, including unlawful possession of a weapon by a street gang member.

Federal prosecutors say police have rounded up most of the 20-plus Springfield area people indicted on drug charges, adding the defendants are gang members or associates of gang members.
The accusations involve trafficking cocaine, crack, heroin, meth, and fentanyl in Springfield over the last two years. Police agencies involved in the investigation include the FBI, Drug Enforcement Administration, state police, and Springfield police.
