This. Robert and i are wishing, we usually do a lot of the advertising. We didnt even have to advertise this one and everything sold out right away, so we have a lot of returning people, a lot of firsttime people and its great to have three great friends here who ill introduce in a moment and im also very thankful for cspan. We have cspan here, and i think this is the first time that cspan has been here to our beautiful campus. I love cspan. Everything that they do, they just bring the camera and no filter, right . No comment tear, they just see whats going on and they let it speak for itself. Ive to give one credits, because hes one of the people on the he said, ive never seen a lineup like this. Theyll come. Youve got to invite him, and he was right. He called that exactly right. So i have five minutes right now to set these up and introduce these guys and get out of the way because we go until 11 00, and i was thinking how do you introduce the topic and this is the 100th anniversary
Guest my goal was to state that and that is what i set out to do . Host what did you learn . Guest oh, lots. The book was much harder to write than i thought it would be. By the time i studied the book i was studying churchhill for 40 years. I made the author terrible mistake think it would be relatively easy compared to other things i had written. Much harder than i thought. When you write down and give account of main things in his life, things he thought, things he stood for, things he advocated or defended, turns out they relate to one another. More deeply and in more complex ways than i had imagined and i came to understand them better i hope and think and it was a painful process. Host did you approach this book from a fans perspective . Guest well, im a scholar, right . I dont think i can write anything down that i cant defend but i do admire churchhill very much. I think he was a very great man. If you just list things he achieved, this very hard to name anybody in all of histo
