CHULA VISTA, Calif. A San Diego County church played a major role in the Supreme Court’s decision to allow California churches to reopen in a limited capacity. South Bay United Pentecostal Church filed the lawsuit against the state that then reached the highest court in the nation.
Bishop Hodges told News 8 that he’s pleased with the Court’s decision but he also says for months, the Pentecostal Church across the state has gone above and beyond to follow CDC guidelines.

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) â The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals rejected an emergency injunction for a Chula Vista church to hold Christmas Day services indoors.
South Bay United Pentecostal Church, which has had legal challenges denied over California s COVID-19 restrictions against places of worship holding indoor services, requested the injunction while its appeals case works its way through the courts.
Thursday, the Ninth Circuit denied the request but the case will see a full hearing on the merits on January 15, 2021. We are extremely disappointed that the Ninth Circuit has yanked the joy of Christmas away from South Bay United Pentecostal Church and its congregants, Charles LiMandri, one of the attorneys representing the church, said in a statement.

LOS ANGELES (KGTV) â Late Saturday, Los Angeles County changed its public health order to allow indoor religious services with modifications â something that could have implications for a South Bay church s legal battle.
Los Angeles County s Department of Public Health issued the changes following a ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court on Dec. 3 that places of worship in New York could reopen because coronavirus restrictions violated the First Amendment of the Constitution.
The high court then sent an unsigned order to California judges to reconsider Gov. Gavin Newsom s restrictions.
