The School Committee has selected the New England School Development Council (NESDEC) to spearhead the search for a new school superintendent.
After hearing pitches from NESDEC, the Massachusetts Association of School Committees and McPherson & Jacobson, the School Committee voted 5-0 to hire NESDEC as a consultant to coordinate the superintendent search.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. David DeRuosi Jr. is retiring at the end of June after a five-year stint of leading the Saugus school district.
Art Bettencourt, the executive director of NESDEC, told committee members his firm has done more than 600 searches for executives all over New England.
Saugus school officials discuss enforcement of state-mandated flu shot

The school district is surveying caregivers to find out which students have received a state-mandated flu shot in advance of 2021.
Over the summer, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health announced that an influenza immunization will be required for all children 6 months of age or older who are attending daycare facilities, preschools, public schools and colleges in the state.
Students are expected to have received a flu vaccine by Dec. 31, 2020 – unless a medical or religious exemption is provided.
Homeschooled students are also exempt from the flu immunization requirement, but elementary and secondary students in school districts that are using a remote education model aren’t exempt, according to MassDPH.
