Midsumma Festival is bringing two nights of queer performance and celebration to Sidney Myer Music Bowl

Midsumma Festival is bringing two nights of queer performance and celebration to Sidney Myer Music Bowl Words by Arielle Richards This year’s Midsumma Festival is going to look a little different. Australia’s most iconic LGBTQIA+ arts and culture event, Midsumma Festival, will return to Melbourne over two fabulous nights of live performance, comedy and music, this time as part of Art Centre Melbourne’s Live at the Bowl concert series. While these trying times have tragically put a stopper in the annual Midsumma Carnival, this year’s theme will see organisers invest in the “art of the possible”, transforming the iconic Sidney Myer Music Bowl for two entire nights of queer performance and celebration. Better yet, both events are completely free!

Sometimes you need to frighten yourself : For The Cat Empire s Felix Riebl, it s creativity over comfort

01.03.2021 “Sometimes you need to frighten yourself”: For The Cat Empire’s Felix Riebl, it’s creativity over comfort Words by Tammy Walters The Cat Empire are back in their element, bringing their infectious, feel-good jams back to the stage. Known for their unparalleled, vibrant live shows, the band who constantly put ‘Two Shoes’ forward have been making their way across the nation with The Teskey Brothers, John Butler, Boy and Bear, Montaigne, Missy Higgins and Emily Wurramara for the SummerSalt Series.  “It’s been really incredible to be back on stage again and to be around musicians who have made a career as really great performers. It’s been so enlivening to see great crowds and musicians doing the things and people having fun,” says frontman and principal songwriter, Felix Riebl.

Private Function and 30/70 delivered polar performances with their joint Happy Mondays show

Private Function and 30/70 delivered polar performances with their joint Happy Mondays show Image by Zo Damage The odd pairing was far from the weirdest part of the night. A collaborative initiative as part of Melbourne Music Week and Art Centre Melbourne’s Live at the Bowl series, Happy Mondays brings together two small live music venues each week to curate a lineup for the big stage. This week’s iteration saw Northcote Social Club and The Evelyn put their heads together for a program comprising 30/70 and Private Function. An unlikely pairing, the polar acts delivered two very different performances at Sidney Myer Music Bowl on Monday night.
