Letter: Zip track too noisy

We wish to expand on Anne Ternus-Bellamy’s excellent article, “Proposed changes to city’s noise ordinance tabled for now,” which appeared online on June 3 and in print on June 4. Because the print version was edited for brevity, some points were omitted, including our family’s perspective on the noise emanating from the Arroyo Park zip track situated near our home.
Our view is that the proposed changes were precipitated by our pointing out that the sound reports the city commissioned in the summer of 2019 changed the method to calculate allowable noise, applying an average level rather than relying on the maximum measurements specified by city regulations. Instead of correcting the reports, the city proposed amending its longstanding noise ordinance.
