By Dave Strandberg DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – Duluth Police are investigating the city’s first homicide of 2021. A 22 year old man was was shot Saturday in the 100 block of East 3rd Street. The victim was taken to a local hospital in serious condition and later died of his injuries. Police have a 17 year old male in custody and booked on 2nd degree murder charges at the Arrowhead Juvenile Center. The incident remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call 911 or contact the Duluth Violent Crimes Unit at 218-730-5050. The name of the victim is being withheld at this time by authorities.

The shooting happened around 7:00 p.m. Saturday on the 100 block of East 3rd Street in downtown Duluth. The 17-year-old male was taken into custody Saturday and booked in the Arrowhead Juvenile Center. The teen made his first appearance in juvenile court Monday. According to County Attorney Mark Rubin’s office, they have filed a motion for the case to be moved to adult court.

Created: May 24, 2021 02:29 PM 17-year-old Patrick Wilson Battees Jr. is facing a charge of intentional second degree murder in connection with a shooting that killed a 22-year-old victim who has not yet been named. A juvenile delinquency petition filed in district court on Monday states that the shooting occurred just after 7 p.m. Saturday on the 100 block of East 3rd Street. Responding officers found a 22-year old male victim who had suffered a single gunshot wound to the head. He was brought to the hospital, where he later died. The victim s name has not yet been released. A witness on scene told police that they saw a man with a star tattoo near his eye dressed in jeans, a white shirt and a black sweatshirt around his waist who appeared to be Native American or Hispanic crouch behind a van and tuck what appeared to be a black handgun into his waistband and leave the area.
