Dog survives run-in with potentially illegal snare

Rio Arriba County Animal Control officers brought in a seven-month-old puppy with a severely swollen head and an undeniable snare around his neck. The puppy was having a hard time breathing.

Sheriff's Office Asks Public to Obey Animal Control Laws

    There have been major domestic animal problems in both rural and urban areas throughout Rio Arriba County for several years.     Rio Arriba County Animal Control has two animal control officers that respond to public request for assistance of capture, removal and other concerns that are brought to our attention. Per the Rio Arriba County Animal Control Ordinance No. 1996-02 states there will be a $10 impoundment fee when Animal Control Officers are called to locate, capture and transport an animal to the animal shelter.     Animal Control Officers will also be implementing rabies vaccinations as per Section V of the ordinance. It is the duty of all persons owning or keeping a dog or cat or any member of the canine or feline family over the age of three (3) months, to have such animals vaccinated against rabies. Section.
