It was a rescue scenario like no other, truly a matter of life and death.
An EF-3 tornado with estimated winds of 150 mph blew through Fultondale, decimating entire neighborhoods and toppling a 100-year-old oak tree that landed on the leg of Arnoldo Vasquez-Hernandez as he was shepherding his wife and three children to the basement of their Lykes Boulevard home.

A Fultondale father is in a medically induced coma after he saved his youngest following Monday’s tornado and now friends are rallying around him and his family who lost everything in the storm.
Arnoldo Vasquez-Hernandez and his family were just returning to their home on Lykes Boulevard when they heard the sirens sound warning of the coming tornado. They rushed to get the kids – ages 12, 9 and 7 - out of bed, said friend Koty Ray.
