Joshua Shanes received his B.A. from the University of Illinois in 1993 and his Ph.D. in History from the University of Wisconsin in 2002. Professor Shanes research and publications focuses on modern Jewish politics, culture and religion, as well as antisemitism and modern politics more generally. He has published dozens of articles in academic and popular outlets and is currently writing a history of Jewish Orthodoxy from its German origins into the 21st century. His first book, Diaspora Nationalism and Jewish Identity in Habsburg Galicia, appeared with Cambridge in 2012.
Dr. Shanes became the Associate Director of Jewish Studies in 2017 and Director of the Arnold Center for Israel Studies in 2019.

Briar Cliff athletics are a staple of Charger pride on and off campus. All 17 Briar Cliff teams have access to services at the McCoy-Arnold Center, athletic training rooms and the athletic department administrative offices.
McCoy-Arnold Center The McCoy-Arnold Center is dedicated to all things strength and conditioning at The Cliff. Every athletic program will spend time here all year round, getting stronger and preparing for their upcoming seasons or solidifying and maintaining strength to help support healthy in-season competitions.
Athletic Training Rooms
The athletic training rooms help athletes with any bumps or bruises they acquire in competition. Our trainers work with students to recover from injuries to help get them back to their sport as soon as possible. The training rooms are two offices; one located on the ground floor of Alverno Hall and the other on the ground floor of the Newman Flanagan Center.
Bridgeport City Website
The Paier College of Art in Connecticut announced Monday that they are moving out of Hamden and into Bridgeport.
The college will remain an independent institution but will be hosted at the Arnold Center for the Arts and Humanities at the University of Bridgeport starting this fall. The partnership will allow Paier to offer on-campus housing to their students at Bridgeport’s dormitories and other facilities like their library.
The college will also change their name simply to Paier College to reflect the growing degrees offered by the school beyond the arts.
Paier wants approval from the U.S. Department of Education to offer these new degree programs, which overlap with those offered at Bridgeport.

Midland community foundation gifts $30K to Arnold Center

The Arnold Center, whose on-going mission is to empower individuals with disabilities and other barriers to independence through enhanced vocational, social and life skill training and services that lead to greater self-sufficiency, was awarded a COVID-19 Revenue Disruption Grant of $30,000 by the Midland Area Community Foundation.
The Midland Area Community Foundation is an organization dedicated to providing philanthropic leadership to strengthen our community by fostering collaboration and giving today and in the future.
“Our most sincere and deepest gratitude to the Midland Area Community Foundation for this COVID-19 Revenue Disruption Grant which truly helps us to continue our mission for our participants and associates during these challenging times caused by the COVID pandemic,” said Jennifer Grace, executive director of the Arnold Center.
