Street trees add all kinds of goods to a neighbourhood, from improved health of residents and local wildlife to higher property values. In the Spanish city of Seville, the street trees are upping the ante and providing electricity too.
There are 48,000 Seville orange trees planted on the streets of Seville. In spring they fill the air with fabulous fragrance, and in winter they fill the air with cursing as pedestrians slip between icy pavements and rotting fruit and flies descend on the mashed pulp and spilled juice produced by cars squashing the fruit into the roadway.
