The Nigerian Army has confirmed the arrest of an alleged notorious human trafficker, identified as Mrs Olushola Areke in Lagos State. Mrs Areke’s arrest was announced in a press statement issued by the army authorities via the office of the acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations on Monday.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has assured troops in the country that they would soon be equipped with more combat enablers and better infrastructural amenities.
The Nigerian Army has said it rescued two corps members kidnapped by bandits in Yargoje community, Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State in a joint operation with the police. It said the corps members were rescued on Thursday through a joint operation by the troops of 17 Brigade Nigerian Army in collaboration with the Nigeria Police. According to a statement signed by Brig. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations on Friday, the criminals abducted the corps members while they were transiting from Edo to Katsina State.
A former Director of Army Public Relations of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Texas Chukwu, is dead. The retired army officer died on Thursday in his residence in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Chukwu was named the spokesperson of the military arm in February 2018 when Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai (retd.) was the Chief of Army Staff. He succeeded Brigadier General Sani Usman (retd.), who had then proceeded to the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Plateau.
