Gangtok, June 18 (IANS): The Indian Army on Sunday rescued around 300 more tourists, including women and children, stranded in Sikkim due to landslides and roadblocks triggered by torrential rains, defence officials said.
The stranded tourists at Chungthang in North Sikkim crossed over the temporary bridge for further move towards the state capital Gangtok, an official statement said.
Earlier, troops of the striking Lion Division of Trishakti Corps had worked relentlessly and rescued over 2,000 tourists on Saturday in the same mountainous areas of Sikkim. - Articles from The Weather Channel | weather.com
The road linking Uttarey to Sopakhain in West Sikkim has been severely damaged in multiple places, with two bridges and several trout and poultry farms being washed away.
