geraldo: welcome back. there is an intense debate going on about arming schoolteachers with guns to fight off would be assailants. one pennsylvania district has chosen a different weapon to fend off any shooter. baseball bats. here is the superintendent. it s a last resort. it s the last resort but it s also an option. unfortunately we are in a a day and age where we need to use them to protect ourselves. geraldo: little bats, like the little ones you get a yankee stadium. 18-inch bats. kimberly, seems almost silly. people who advocate baskets of rocks, stones you can throw. kimberly: i don t know. listen, miniature bats are not necessarily good idea. having gone to a lot of baseball
that the president clearly is reviewing a bunch of different options, throwing out a bunch of different ideas, even saying that he would have rushed into a school without being armed himself. that, of course, raises the question of if schoolteachers actually should be armed. wolf, a few moments ago i caught up with a florida governor who is in a meeting there with the other governors. he opposes the president s plan to arm schoolteachers. he says more money should be spent on school safety and security, not arming teachers. so clearly there is not a consensus here. but wolf, there is definitely a discussion as congress comes back into town this week about gun policy. wolf? what if anything did he say about raising the age limit from 18 to 21 to purchase certain guns? reporter: that has been something the president talked about last week but then he dialed it back again. he does support that proposal but does not seem to be drawing as much attention on that as arming schoolteachers.
are we seeing that play out on the guns issue as well? i think the president seems to have a pretty good feel for what his backers and the gun owners of america, the national rifle association and others want. he was already somebody who was in favor of legislation to repeal the gun-free school zones act, which basically didn t allow for teachers to carry. now what we re hearing about plans to possibly subsidize and train teachers to carry weapons. and if the debate is about that, then donald trump and those who argue strenuously for limited limitations on the second amendment are winning in terms of where that ground is. they re not talking about limiting clip capacity, they re not talking about weapons themselves and instead talking about arming schoolteachers, perhaps tightening background checks, getting rid of bump stocks, accessories, basically, that s good ground for trump to be on to protect what second amendment advocates say is almost an invaluable right to bear arms. whe
wouldn t even know who has it, that s good. it s not bad. it s good and the teacher would have shot himself before he knew what happened. . president trump is pledging to get congress to act on gun k policies. one thing the president has seized on again and again is the idea of arming schoolteachers and other school officials. he said it is those teachers. a security guard doesn t know the people that doesn t love the children. he problem my doesn t know the children.
