Many of Those Remembered Were Registered with ABMDR
as Potential Bone Marrow Donors.
The Armenian Bone Marrow Donor Registry took part in a national commemoration in honor of the thousands of soldiers who fell in the First and Second Artsakh Wars. The mourned soldiers include 94 young men who had joined ABMDR as potential bone marrow donors.
The commemoration took place in Yerevan on May 9, the traditional date that marks Shushi Liberation Day. Every year on May 8 and May 9 and up till 2020, Armenians celebrated the liberation of Shushi and the liberation of Artsakh as a whole. This year, however, as the Armenian nation is reeling from the loss of Shushi and other territories as a result of the Artsakh War of 2020, May 9 has instead become a day of remembrance and mourning.

Facilitated by ABMDR, the cell-harvesting procedure is the 36h in the history of the organization
LOS ANGELES Despite unprecedented challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Armenian Bone Marrow Donor Registry has been able to facilitate a potentially life-saving stem cell-harvesting procedure. On January 11, a Yerevan resident, a young man who is a registered donor with ABMDR, donated bone marrow stem cells to help save the life of an Armenian cancer patient undergoing treatment in Germany. The Yerevan resident was identified as a perfect stem cell donor match for the recipient patient, who suffers from a life-threatening illness and whose last hope of survival is a stem cell transplant.
Arthur Zakarian
It is with a heavy heart that we learned of the passing of Arthur Zakarian, a true friend of the Armenian Bone Marrow Donor Registry (ABMDR).
Arthur was born in Isfahan, Iran. After graduating high school, he continued his education in the UK and Germany. In 1969, he founded his company “Olympia Tools” and in 1976, he moved to the United States with his family. In the 30 years that followed, he traveled extensively and expanded his business into a thriving one.
Arthur’s first visit to Armenia was in 1991. In the following years he travelled extensively to Armenia, and in 2005 he realized his life long dream of retiring in Armenia, making it his home, and dividing his time between his charities and small businesses.
