16:00 | Lima, May. 27. The National Police of Peru (PNP) has strengthened intelligence operations in the Valley of Apurimac, Ene and Mantaro Rivers (VRAEM), where a terrorist attack occurred last Sunday, leaving 16 dead, General Commander of the National Police Cesar Cervantes said on Thursday.
The instruction to deploy a contingent of specialized troops to the area, conduct follow-up investigation, and collect data from various informants came as soon as the attack in the town of San Miguel del Ene (Junin region) was reported.
According to Cervantes, the operations are supervised in situ by the head of the Anti-Terrorism Directorate (Dircote), PNP General Oscar Arriola, who also directs police investigations of technical nature, in coordination with the Public Ministry and the Armed Forces.
