Travellers from New York arrived in Italy s Milan Malpensa airport on the route s first Covid-tested and quarantine-free flight on Saturday.
The biggest airport in northern Italy has now begun its flight schedule of Covid-tested flights from the United States, making passengers exempt from the 14 days of self-isolation normally required.
“It is the first ever flight from New York since the end of March 2020. It took a year to restart this crucial connection for people and the economy,” said Armando Brunini, CEO of SEA Milan Airports, in a press conference.
Delta will offer quarantine-free flights from New York-JFK to Milan Malpensa airport starting April 2, 2021, a day after it launches to Rome Fiumicino. The services will enable customers eligible to travel to Italy to avoid the mandatory 14-day quarantine on arrival, following a rigorous testing protocol before and after travel.
“A year after air travel stalled to levels not seen in living memory, these COVID-tested, quarantine-free flights provide a real boost to the aviation industry,” said Delta’s Alain Bellemare, E.V.P and President – International. “We are starting to see more global vaccination programs but until they become more widespread, corridor flights like this can help keep our customers and crew safer when they fly.”

The order has been signed by the Italian Minister of Health
Milan, 10 March 2021 - Go-ahead for the experimentation of
“Covid-Tested” flights to and from the United States. This provision will promote intercontinental air traffic by making flights safer.
The order establishes that all passengers departing on the Milan-New York route and vice versa will be required to present, upon boarding, a certificate attesting to the negative result of the molecular (RT PRC) or antigenic test carried out within 48 hours prior to the flight.
In particular, passengers arriving at Malpensa will be able to avoid quarantine or fiduciary isolation, as required for those arriving from the United States, by taking an antigenic test (RADT) at the airport.
