them bleed out slowly so that even if they retain a presence at the end of the day, in the donbas, which is essentially where they were twh shooting started in march, even if they retain a presence there, they will regret anything that they undertook to advance forces forward and deter them from any further military incursion. i think it s critically important that the west, the u.s., other allies continue to arm ukrainians so they can impose is severe costs on the russians. and i want to also talk to you about the army in france. you have the critical election, the rematch between france s president and the challenger, the long time putin supporter. she helped finance her last campaign against macron with millions of euros from russian banks. last night macron in their only debate, macron pinned her town on the fact that she s not
what he s doing here. and people always ask what s the end game here, and there is no end game for him. the end game is for him to be at war, getting the russian people focusing on a foreign enemy, to have everyone rally around the president. that s where he gets his benefit, and he s gotten that now. he s running at an 83% approval rating in russia because of this war. paul: well, okay, i was going to ask that, i assume some of that is because the control over the media, that he controls the message. so the fact of losses, casualties doesn t really get through except, you know, through if you will, to borrow an old soviet phrase. but does this mean we in the west and ukrainians are looking at a kind of perpetual war scenario where putin will just reinforce and reinforce and losses don t matter? that s exactly right. i mean, look, you know, stalin lost 25 million russians, you know? putin has maybe lost 20,000 so
far. he doesn t care. he does not care about russians, he doesn t care about ukrainians, he doesn t care about anything other than himself. and so the only way this thing is going to end in a good way is if the ukrainians defeat him. and so as we in the west look at this, we have to do everything we possibly can to help the ukrainians defeat him, and that means more arms, that means more sanctions, that means more economic isolation. we have to stop putin in any way we can, and we should be very grateful to the ukrainians for fighting him because if they weren t, he d probably be fighting us atom point. paul: is there at some point. paul: is there some deal at least temporarily that putin might take? if for example, if zelenskyy, president zelenskyy of ukraine conceded the donbas, say, to putin or said we won t enter nato or we won t enter the e.i.? would any of that e.u.? would any of that be enough for
sent a diplomat saying there will be unpredictable consequences if the united states still continues to arm ukraine. if briefly, what are the implications of that, or should we just ignore it? i think we have to ignore it. it s just huffing and puffing. he will do whatever he s going to do. we have to do whatever we re going to do, and he s just trying i mean, this is a game of poker, and for those of your viewers who play poker, he s got a pair of 2s, we have a full house, and he s trying to bluff us out of this hand. we have to just stare him down and not just arm ukrainians, but give them further arms, give them whatever they need to continue to fight off this unjustifieded, illegal invasion. paul: all right. bill browder, thanks very much. appreciate you coming in. still ahead, week the attack in the new york city subway drawing new attention to the spike of crime in america s
now we are reporting two days inn for the general to say it could be years, but certainly nt something for they want to hear hear however, yesterday, they said that they knew that this conflict that had been going on in the eastern donbas region. we are now told the russian troops will focus their efforts on it. it has been going on for years and they understand the u.s. and allies arm ukrainians and that it could be a long, doug and resistance if indeed forces are able to take more of that area. but that is a big question mark, carley, because we have seen other areas of ukrainian forces and counteroffensive have had success in driving ukrainian forces out. but it will certainly be a high area. whether it last months or years will be anyone s gases. carley: the western goal of
