Future State has been pretty hard on the Bat-Family, with The Magistrate taking over Gotham with the help of the police and politicians, and masks targetted with shoot on sight orders as a result. They re still fighting back though, and despite the challenges and the steep odds that they ll succeed, they are still making the Magistrate s life hell. The latest example of this occurs in
The Next Batman #3, specifically in The Outsiders, where we see the odds evened out a bit thanks to the help of Jefferson Pierce, and as a result, one Batman character just got a huge upgrade that will only make him even more of a threat. Spoilers incoming for The Next Batman #3, so if you haven t read the issue yet you ve been warned.
Arkham Knight Returns in Future State
Future State kicked off with a bang this week as
Dark Nights: Death Metal #7 ushered in a sprawling possible future, one that changes up the status quo in Gotham quite a bit. The city is now under the control of a private security force known as The Magistrate, who have outlawed all masks in the city, but that isn t keeping heroes and villains alike from pushing back and stepping in. As we learned in The Next Batman #1, that includes a certain villain who originated in Batman: Arkham Knight, who made their grand return to the comics after some time away.
DC Comics reports.
INTRODUCING TIM FOX: THE NEXT BATMAN!
Even before the announcement of DC Future State and Future State: The Next Batman, by John Ridley, Nick Derington and Laura Braga, the news that a person of color could be the next to don the cape and cowl as Gotham City’s protector sent tongues wagging inside and outside the comic book community about who it could possibly be.
Today, the speculation finally ends with the reveal of this surprise variant cover to issue #2 of the four-issue January/February miniseries. Featuring striking art by Doug Braithwaite and Diego Rodriguez, Gotham’s defender in this dystopian future is revealed as Tim (Jace) Fox, estranged son of Lucius Fox and brother to the former Batwing Luke Fox.
