London Bridge: Man dies in effort to save woman in Thames

A man died after jumping into the Thames to rescue a woman who fell from London Bridge. Police were called at 12.12am this morning, following reports of a woman in the river close to the bridge. Two men who witnessed her fall entered the river in an effort to save her. While the coastguard and marine units managed to rescue the woman and one of the men, the other remained missing. A body believe to be the missing man was found this morning. His next of kin have been made aware and are being supported by specialist officers. It is the second incident this week where a person has fallen into the Thames near London Bridge.

The Year 8 pupil, thought to be 12 or 13, was travelling with a friend on a bus on Tuesday morning when he got off before his usual stop, his headteacher said. City of London Police said that despite an intensive search by officers and helicopter and marine units, the boy had not yet been found. Matt Jones, executive principal of the boy’s school, Ark Globe Academy, in Southwark, south London, wrote in a letter to parents that the boy did not arrive at school.
