Death toll rises as rescuers find 2 more bodies

SunStar Photo from Philippine Coast Guard + April 23, 2021 THE bodies of two more crew members of the ill-fated LCT Cebu Great Ocean were recovered Friday morning, April 23, 2021, raising the death toll from the maritime tragedy to six. Seven crew members remained missing. Search and rescue operations led by Coast Guard Station (CGS) Surigao del Norte were ongoing. The bodies of Clint Auxtero and Lemuel Dadivas were separately found in Barangays Balite and Oslao, both in San Francisco town in Surigao del Norte, according to CGS Surigao del Norte chief Elaine Pangilinan. She said they were identified by the human resources officer of their company. No other details were available.

SunStar (Photo grabbed from Philippine Coast Guard s Twitter) + April 21, 2021 THREE individuals died and 10 are missing after cargo ship LCT Cebu Great Ocean ran aground along the shoreline of Barangay Cantapoy in the municipality of Malimono, Surigao del Norte on Monday afternoon, April 19, 2021. Huge waves caused by typhoon Bising buffeted the cargo ship when it navigated the sea while carrying nickel ore and 2,000 liters of diesel, according to a report by radio station RPN DXKS Surigao. Those who died have been identified: Marvin Lusica, electrician Norman Galon, and oiler Lemuel Davidas. The incident also recorded seven surviving crew members. Six of them have been identified. They are Noli Labucay, chief mate Roger Polo, Arjie Bacarra, Jojie Villanueva, Felipe Quebuen Jr., and John Renso Guanzon.

In a statement, the PCG identified one of the four fatalities as Norman Galon, who was found by residents along the shore of Barangay Balite, San Francisco. Two of the bodies have not yet been identified. Residents found the bodies on the shore of Barangay Jubgan. The PCG has not yet released any information about the fourth fatality.
