Mesa-based nonprofit Desert Sounds helps connect at risk kids to the community by providing access to musical instruments.
Next year, as in the previous 11 years, it anticipates a $2,000 grant from the philanthropic outfit, The Arizona Womenâs Partnership.Â
The grant is modest, but it goes a long way in the organization that is cash-strapped even without a pandemic.
âIt doesnât matter if we have one child here or 3,000 children, we still have to pay rent and utility bills, so itâs made it difficult,â said Jennifer Crews, referring to the pandemic. âWe have to cut back on what we offer because we canât afford it.â
