Coconino County To Commemorate The Centennial Of Women’s Voting Rights Wednesday
Coconino County will unveil a suffrage marker at the county courthouse Wednesday to commemorate the centennial of Women’s Voting Rights, in collaboration with the National Collaborative for Women’s History Site and the Pomeroy Foundation. The Arizona Women’s History Alliance identified the Coconino County courthouse as one of five historic sites in the state of Arizona as Anna Howard Shaw, a nation suffrage leader, gave a talk at the courthouse on October 18th, 1912. Dr. Anna Howard Shaw is a significant figure in the national suffrage movement, campaigning across the country in the ultimately successful push for women’s right to vote. Remarks will be made by Coconino County Board of Supervisors Chairman Matt Ryan, District 1 Supervisor Patrice Horstman and County Recorder Patty Hansen. You can watch the ceremony live at 2:30 on the Coconino County Facebook page.
