Scientists: Israel proves every developed country can subdue COVID with vaccines

Nathan Jeffay is The Times of Israel s health and science correspondent An Israeli man cuts through a huge face mask as Israelis celebrate the end of the outdoor mask mandate, in Jerusalem, April 18, 2021. (Yonatan Sindel/Flash90) Prominent scientists say the transformation of Israel from a COVID-19 hotspot to a vaccination success story underlines that any developed country can subdue the virus. They estimate that a relatively small number of vaccinations are needed to take a country out of crisis mode. The moment that half of the population aged 60-plus is inoculated, authorities can expect a dramatic drop in cases and hospitals are safe from being overwhelmed, they conclude.

Tel Aviv University Opens Unique Center for Combating Pandemics

Feb 14, 2021 Multidisciplinary center connects hospitals, government and academic institutions in Israel and around the world to prepare for future epidemics. By Abigail Klein Leichman, ISRAEL21c Despite tens of millions of Covid-19 cases worldwide, much remains unknown about the origin and long-term effects of the SARS-Cov-2 coronavirus. One thing that scientists know without a doubt: We can expect more pandemics in the future. That’s why Tel Aviv University recently launched the Center for Combating Pandemics, thought to be the first of its kind anywhere. “In the past 15 years, the world has seen a string of viral pathogens infect large numbers of people, among them SARS, MERS, swine flu and avian flu. Clearly, we are not safe from dangerous emerging diseases,” says Center Head Prof. Itai Benhar of TAU’s Shmunis School of Biomedicine and Cancer Research.

In case of abuse, If Israel was a rational country and Bibi a serious politician, it should end all lockdowns and all antidemocratic measures due to Covid-19 right now. Why? Firstly: The entire crisis is based on a controversial and hardly scholarly PCR test, and not on a threat to the entire society. Secondly: Only a tiny fraction of Israeli society is older than 65 years, according to Wikipedia some 10,5 per cent. But it has already vaccinated over 10 percent of its population, more than one million people.
