NM Attorney General s Office: City must release police records involving minors

The New Mexico Attorney General’s Office ruled on Monday that the City of Rio Rancho cannot withhold police records involving juveniles.The decision took the form of a letter dated March 7, addressed to City Attorney Greg Lauer and copied to Observer news editor Argen Marie Duncan. In it, NMAG’s Office Senior Civil Counsel Olga M. Serafimova writes that the city’s policy of refusing to release police reports and 911 calls related to incidents in which a minor was a victim or suspect violates the state Inspection of Public Records Act (IPRA).

Rio Rancho teen gives RRPD dog-training tool

Cleveland High School senior and Boy Scout troops 1 and 459 member Mason Naus, son of RRPD Sgt. Michael Naus, presented the scent-training board he designed to the department Wednesday evening. The board is made of plywood in a steel frame and has two sections, each containing five attachments for interchangeable cylinders that can hold samples of drugs or explosive materials for dogs to find.
