Plaid Cymru MS Arfon Siân Gwenllian and Arfon MP Hywel Williams have spoken out against proposals to axe direct rail services between north west Wales and Manchester Airport. Proposals put forward by the Manchester Recovery Task Force (MRTF), could also have implications for heart patients and their families travelling by rail from north Wales to the Manchester Heart Centre with the planned removal of passenger services from Oxford Road Station, which serves the hospital. Opposing the plans, Arfon MS Siân Gwenllian and MP Hywel Williams said: It is vital to maintain this direct rail link to Manchester Airport from north Wales.
Plaid Cymru politicians have called for an immediate aid package to save national library from cuts. Pressure is mounting on the Welsh Labour government to provide immediate financial support to safeguard the future of the National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth. Plaid Cymru Senedd Member for Arfon Siân Gwenllian and Member of Parliament Hywel Williams have called on the Welsh government to urgently set aside funding to secure the future of the cultural asset. Their intervention comes as a petition calling on the Welsh government to increase its financial support for the institution receives nearly 12,000 signatures. The local politicians have been lobbied by a number of constituents who are regular users of the National Library, concerned that Welsh government Deputy Minister for Culture Dafydd Elis-Thomas seems very reluctant to find an answer to the crisis.
