18 Abducted Kano Traders Regain Freedom

Eighteen Kano Kantim Kwari traders who were kidnapped on their way to Aba in Abia State have regained their freedom.
Recall that the traders were abducted on January 10, 2021 in Okene, Kogi State, as they made way to Aba to buy textile materials.
Confirming news of their release on Sunday, the President Arewa Youth Traders Association of Nigeria, Alhaji Abubakar Babawo revealed that the abducted traders were released by their kidnappers on Saturday evening.
His words, “The 18 Kano traders who were part of the 27 traders were freed on Saturday evening. They passed the night in Kaduna and presently are on their way to Kano.

The eighteen Kano traders from Kantn Kwari textile market abducted in Kogi on their way to Aba in Abia State have regained their freedom.
President, Arewa Youth Traders Association of Nigeria, Alhaji Abubakar Babawo, confirmed the release of the businessmen to THISDAY in Kano on Sunday.
“The 18 Kano traders who were among the 27 traders regained their freedom on Saturday evening. They slept in Kaduna and they are now on their way to Kano.
‘’We are expecting them today in Kano as we have been communicating with them.
“We communicated with some of them. All of them are released. They are fine and en route to Kano.”

The victims, said to be businessmen from the popular textile market in Kantin Kwari, Kano, were reportedly travelling to Aba to buy goods.
Their vehicle was said to have been attacked by the armed men, before they were moved to the bush.
However, there were conflicting reports on the location where the businessmen were attacked. While a source said it was along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway, another said it happened along the Lokoja-Okene expressway.

Abubakar Kabiru, president of the Arewa Youth Traders Association of Nigeria, told reporters on Thursday, that the businessmen were on their way to Aba on Sunday night when the kidnappers shot the tyre of their luxury bus and abducted them.

Kaduna State Government has disowned media reports trending on the social media that an unspecified number of traders from Kano State were kidnapped in the state along the Kaduna-Abuja highway.
Kaduna State government made the clarification in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan on Thursday.
According to the statement, the traders were elsewhere and not in the state.
“The federal security agencies operating on the Kaduna-Abuja Road, as at this time, have not reported any such incident.
