When Theo Epstein walked away from the Chicago Cubs in November, he made it clear that owning a club is something he very much desired. “Being part of an ownership group is something that has always appealed to me, but it can seem so unattainable that I haven’t been really realistic about it yet,” Epstein said at the time.
Two months later, the unattainable is suddenly very much a reality, with The Wall Street Journal reporting “Epstein, one of the most acclaimed executives in baseball history, has joined Arctos Sports Partners, a private-equity firm dedicated to buying minority shares of professional sports teams, as ‘executive-in-residence.’”

Nets dedicate season opener to New York’s essential workers

As the long anticipated 2020-21 season kicks off Tuesday, the Nets are dedicating their opening night at Barclays Center to the city’s essential workers “who have shown the world what it means to be ‘New York Tough.’”
Throughout the evening, the Nets will highlight and thank “local heroes who have helped lead New York through the early days of the coronavirus pandemic and have continued to serve on the frontlines over the past nine months,” the team announced Tuesday morning.
Those who’ll be honored include medical personnel, nursing home attendants, MTA employees, sanitation workers and others.
