Exclusive research: The UK s shop opening hotspots

Central London has been named as the location with the highest amount of new fashion retail store openings between April 2020 and April 2021, exclusive research compiled for Drapers by Local Data Company shows. Recent store openings in central London include Ralph Lauren s flagship store, and Browns which opened in April. Versace, opened its London flagship store in December. Telford Shopping Centre and McArthurGlen s Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet, which opened on 12 April, came in second and third place respectively in a list of the 16 UK locations with the highest new fashion chain store openings. The data does not include the exact number of stores that have opened across the 12-month period.

Exclusive research: The high streets most at risk

Exclusive research: The high streets most at risk Local Data Company shows which locations will be worst hit by the closures of John Lewis, Debenhams and Arcadia Group stores. Out of the eight locations, Aberdeen and York have had the highest number of high-profile store closures between March 2018 and March 2021, exclusive research compiled for Drapers by Local Data Company shows. Both cities witnessed 17 “high-profile” retail closures each during the two-year period. Of the 17, nine were clothing retailers or department stores, including Debenhams, Topshop, Oasis, Cath Kidston, Dorothy Perkins, Monsoon, Warehouse and TM Lewin (see other affected store locations below). “The closures of John Lewis, coupled with the Debenhams and Arcadia closures, means there’s less critical mass of retailers in city centres, which means there’s less reasons to go shopping in city centres, and more reasons to shop locally,” the CEO of a high street multiple said.
