The post went up Thursday afternoon on the Kern Arcade Facebook page. It read: The parking station will remain open for current permanent parkers only from February on. The complex has not been sold, contrary to some ill-informed or speculative media contributors. The complex will be put on the market early next year. There has been much spectaculation around the future of the arcade in Rockhampton s CBD. A social media post on December 10 revealed that three of its iconic stores - Coopers, Propaganda and The Arcade Outlet - would close after the New Year.

Premium Content Subscriber only THE owners of Blue Leaf Takeaway will relocate after last week’s shock news that their current place of business, the Kern Arcade, will close in the New Year. The Ahlstrands plan to stay in Rockhampton’s CBD and are currently negotiating with landlords in East Street. Kern Arcade co-owner Clarke Cooper reportedly delivered the news to the owners of the four other existing businesses – Blue Leaf, Arcade News and Casket, Downtown Diva and Scoffins Watches and Clocks - on Thursday. There has been no date given for the closure, though it is understood it could happen just weeks into 2021.

Council makes statement on Kern Arcade closure

AS RUMOURS fly around what is happening at the Kern Arcade, Rockhampton Regional Council has strongly confirmed it is not involved with any sales or redevelopment. It was later revealed the Kern Arcade would also close sometime early in the new year. The Kern Arcade carpark. It is understood the carpark will remain open. The Morning Bulletin has reached out to many business people over the last week and a sale of the arcade could not be confirmed. There has also been speculation the council has been involved, however this is not true. Council’s official response was: “Rockhampton Regional Council can confirm that they have not purchased the Kern Arcade and they have not received any information regarding its closure.”

Shocked business owners speak out about Kern Arcade s future

KERN Arcade business owners are still reeling from the shock revelation yesterday the complex would close in the New Year and their businesses would have to relocate. Yesterday afternoon Arcade News and Casket, Blue Leaf Takeaway and Downtown Diva hair salon were all told by the Kern Arcade co-owner, Clarke Cooper, the centre would be closing down. Scoffins Watches and Clocks is also in the centre however it is unclear when the business owner was informed. A business owner, wished to remain anonymous, told No formal date has been given however it is understood it could be as soon as two months.
