Man killed in London townhouse fire remembered as loving father, friend

Friday, friends and family identified the man as William Michael Cornish. “He was like my father,” Aren Randall told The London Free Press. Randall, 31, first met Cornish, 56, as a neighbour on Arbour Glen Crescent. The two later lived together for three years, he said. “He was a good guy,” Randall said. “He was always willing to help people out.” Cornish had a daughter, two brothers and a sister, and he lived in the Arbour Glen townhouse for about 20 years with his dog, Vinnie, Randall said. No working smoke alarm in fatal Arbour Glen townhouse fire

LONDON, ONT. One man is dead and a pet dog has perished after fire ripped through a north London townhouse late Wednesday night. Ontario Fire Marshal Acting Supervisor Dave Emberlin says the outcome could have been different. “There’s no working smoke alarms in this unit. And had there been, the occupant probably would have made it out of the house safely.” Around 11:40 p.m. Wednesday, fire crews responded to a blaze at 48 Arbour Glen Cres. after receiving 911 calls from neighbours. When they arrived they found heavy smoke coming from the unit. Once inside they found the bodies of a man and a dog.

Why did it take 18 days before apartment residents knew of COVID-19 outbreak?

LONDON, ONT. Some residents inside a London apartment complex at the centre of a large outbreak of COVID-19 are upset with health officials. The residents cannot understand why 18 days went by between the first case of COVID-19 and the declaration of an outbreak. As of Wednesday, the Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) reports 46 cases of the virus at Maple Ridge on the Parc along Arbour Glen Crescent. Among the hundreds who live in two apartment buildings comprising the development are seniors Margaret and Janusz Kubicki. Retired and in their 70s, Margaret says they worry about contracting COVID-19. We don’t have symptoms, for now, nothing. But who knows about after.
