Most of the house was razed in 1941, but the library wing, now called the Founder s Room, was connected to the new Thornhill building. (KLKN)-This year, the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is challenging outdoor enthusiasts to the Your Parks Adventure challenge and the chance to explore the diverse state park system in honor of the parks’ centennial. Beginning on June 1, those who want to participate can go to any state parks or recreation areas, take a photo at a designated selfie station, and submit it and their story online to be eligible to win prizes.

How did Arbor Day begin?

Photos by Curt Arens ARBOR DAY HOME: Arbor Lodge began as a four-room cabin built by J. Sterling Morton and his wife, Caroline, when they arrived in the Nebraska Territory in 1854. It blossomed into a 52-room mansion over the years. J. Sterling Morton, a newspaper editor and agricultural promoter, proposed the idea in 1872. Suggested Event Aug 31, 2021 to Sep 02, 2021 Earth Day, which began in 1970, gets more press. But its predecessor, Arbor Day set aside to inspire people to plant trees was established in Nebraska in 1872 by a Nebraska City newspaper editor and statesman. Today, Arbor Day is celebrated in every state across the nation and around the world. However, unlike other specific celebrations, it takes place on different dates in different places.
