Jamestown Community College students and employees joined community members in celebrating Arbor Day on Friday by planting five trees on its Jamestown campus. Dr. Kirk Young, vice president of student affairs, delivered the Arbor Day proclamation and Chautauqua County Executive PJ Wendel made remarks congratulating the college on its Tree Campus Higher Education recognition from the Arbor Day Foundation. Assisting the city of Jamestown arborist and park manager, Dan Stone, in the planting of the trees were student Urban Forestry interns Bryanna Davis, Caleb Roller, and Jacob Bullich, and David Talkington, a student worker in the collegeás maintenance department. American larch, Kentucky coffee, and sassafras, and mulberry trees were planted across the campus. JCC became the first community college in New York to receive the designation 12 years ago for its commitment to effective urban forest management.
