Speaking at government programme in Birbhum on a day when a delegation of TMC leaders visited Sandeshkhali and spoke with the residents, the party supremo said that not a single woman from the area lodged any FIR and it was she who had directed the police to initiate a suo motu case in this connection.
Former Bhangar MLA Arabul Islam, arrested twice earlier, was expelled from the TMC in 2014 because of two deaths in an intra-party rivalry. But he was reinstated two years later.
The three-tier panchayat elections were conducted in West Bengal in July last year. During the panchayat elections, incidents of violence occurred from the very first day of the nomination process. A total of 55 persons died in poll-related violence.
