Airline CEOs likely to face cash flow challenges amid signs of travel recovery, Iata boss says

SHARE Global airline chiefs must be even more careful about cash as they revive their operations amid signs of recovery in air travel as they have been when trying to conserve capital over the past year, the International Air Transport Association s chief said. Carriers have to be cautious about the pace of rebuilding their networks as they balance increasing costs with a relatively slower trickle of revenue, Willie Walsh, director-general of Iata, said in a pre-recorded interview with aviation consultant John Strickland during the Arabian Travel Market Virtual conference. For some airlines actually the cash crunch is ahead of them because they will face the real cash challenge when they start to try to ramp up their business, because they don t have the traditional cash reserves from sales in advance of carriage, Mr Walsh said.
