MF DOOM had one simple request “all caps when you spell the man’s name.” But evidently, the Recording Academy didn’t get the memo or has never heard the 2014 Madvillain track “All Caps.”
As the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards got underway at the Los Angeles Staples Center on Sunday night (March 14), the Recording Academy paid tribute to several artists who passed away in 2020, including DOOM, Whodini’s John “Ecstasy” Fletcher, Pop Smoke, Toots Hibbert of Toots & The Maytals and Chick Corea. But Hip Hop fans couldn’t help but notice how DOOM’s name was stylized in the caption lower case.
The (White) Rapper Show ran for only one season consisting of eight episodes. In the inaugural episode, the 10 contestants Dasit, Jon Boy, Misfit, Sullee, Persia, John “King Of Da Burbz” Brown, 100 Proof, $hamrock, Jus Rhyme and G-Child moved into their new home in the South Bronx dubbed “Tha White House.”
Dasit was the first contestant to be eliminated and as soon as he left Tha White House, he was ambushed by someone dressed as a giant cockroach wielding a large can of “Step Off!” spray that “Eliminates Wackness with Quickness.”
Several special guests appeared throughout the season, including Prince Paul, A&R Dante Ross, R.A. The Rugged Man, Fat Joe, N.O.R.E, Kool Keith, Just Blaze and even the Insane Clown Posse. In episode 8, John Brown and $hamrock battled it out for the grand prize and $hamrock ended up walking away the winner.
