A community in South Sudan’s Warrap State has petitioned governor, Aleu Ayieny Aleu for his alleged involvement in a spate of extrajudicial killings in the area, accusations that he denies.
Humanitarian convoy ambushed, looted in Warrap State
A humanitarian convoy consisting of five trucks destined for the Luachjang area in Tonj East County was ambushed and looted last week by armed youth at Langchok locality in the now-defunct Thiik County.
John Wiel an employee of the World Food Programme (WFP) in the area said the trucks were carrying cereal and vegetable oil totaling 42 metric tons and were ambushed before reaching their final destination. There were five vehicles carrying vegetable oil and cereals. The total metric tons looted is 42.707 tons, 2.927 matrix tons is vegetable oil and 39.78 is cereal. The vehicles were destined to Paliang and they did not reach Paliang, they were looted before reaching Paliang,” Wiel said.
Driver killed in Tonj East road ambush
Local authorities in Tonj East County of Warrap State said a co-driver died on Sunday night following a road ambush at Mayom-Chuei locality at the border with Tonj North County.
The officials blamed youth from the Luachjang and Thiik communities in Tonj East County for the attack while others blamed armed youth from the Apuk Padoc community of the now-defunct Lou Paher County in Tonj North.
The Executive Director of the defunct Luachjang South County Mabior Adel blamed Sunday s attack on the Thiik community.
He claimed that Mayom-Chuei where the attack took place lies at the border of the three communities of Luachjang, Thiik, and Lou Paher communities.
